Solana Selects Falcon for Post-Quantum Cryptography, Migration Preparations Complete

SOL-2.52%

Gate News message, April 27 — Solana’s official team published a comprehensive quantum computing roadmap, reaffirming that quantum threats remain years away while the ecosystem has already completed extensive research and technical preparation.

Two independent validator client development teams, Anza and Firedancer (collectively representing a significant portion of network stake), have independently determined the need for a signature-compact post-quantum digital signature scheme suitable for high-throughput blockchains. Both teams selected the Falcon scheme and have published initial implementation code on GitHub.

Additionally, Solana Winternitz Vault, developed by Blueshift, has been running in the ecosystem for over two years, providing a direct quantum-resistant pathway. Earlier this year, Google Quantum AI cited the Vault as a leading case of forward-thinking post-quantum work in its whitepaper.

Solana’s current quantum roadmap includes three components: continuing quantum research and evaluating Falcon and alternative approaches; adopting post-quantum schemes for new wallets when quantum becomes a credible threat; and migrating existing wallets to the selected scheme. The network stated that migration work is manageable and can be completed rapidly, with network performance expected to remain unaffected.

The migration work is controllable, can be completed quickly, and is not expected to affect network performance.
