US Consumer Sentiment Index Preliminary Reading for October 2025: Slight Decline

The University of Michigan released the preliminary reading of the US Consumer Sentiment Index for October 2025 on September 12, 2025. The reported figure was 54.2, in line with the forecast of 54.2, and down from the previous reading of 55.1.This index is defined as the Consumer Sentiment Index, composed of the Current Conditions Index and the Expectations Index. The Current Conditions Index measures consumers' assessment of present economic circumstances, while the Expectations Index reflects their outlook on future economic developments.The data is considered highly significant (importance level 3) and is calculated based on a raw survey of 500 to 600 adults, with all indicators seasonally adjusted. The release occurs monthly on the 10th day (unless that falls on a weekend). The next release is scheduled for November 7, 2025.
