U.S. Senate Crypto Bill Eyes Mid-May Markup as Ethics Disputes Over Trump Ties Cloud Path Forward

According to The Block, the Senate Banking Committee is eyeing a mid-May markup for crypto market structure legislation, with Sen. Thom Tillis telling FOX Business this week that he asked committee chair Tim Scott to schedule a hearing. However, key disputes remain unresolved, including ethics language addressing President Trump’s crypto holdings, which an industry source said could reduce the bill’s passage chances to 15%-25%. Sen. Tillis told Politico he would oppose the bill without ethics provisions, while Sen. Angela Alsobrooks emphasized that illicit finance and ethics concerns must be resolved for a bipartisan committee vote. The bill requires 60 Senate votes to pass.
