Amazon Discusses Sale of Trainium AI Chips With Potential Customers, Stock Up 3% on Thursday

According to Barron's, on Thursday (June 18), Amazon Web Services (AWS) confirmed it is discussing sales of its custom-built Trainium AI acceleration chips with potential customers, aiming to compete in the booming artificial intelligence chip market currently dominated by Nvidia. Peter DeSantis, AWS AI chief, stated that the company has begun conversations with interested customers but declined to disclose client names. A company spokesperson noted these discussions remain in an "exploratory early stage," though customers have expressed interest. Amazon's stock rose 3% on the day, while the S&P 500 gained 1.1% and Nasdaq Composite increased 1.9%.
