Judge dismisses Trump's $15 billion lawsuit against NYT
A federal judge in Tampa has dismissed President Donald Trump's $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, stating that the case is "improper and unacceptable." Judge Steven Merryday has given Trump 28 days to file a revised complaint, limited to 40 pages, focusing on legal grounds rather than turning into a "forum for attack."
The initial lawsuit aimed at accusing defamation but extended to 85 pages, mostly praising Trump and attacking the opponent. Merryday pointed out that only a few pages at the end addressed the legal requirements, while the rest resembled "a political speech." He emphasized that the court is not a "megaphone for the media or a public forum."
The lawsuit targets four reporters from The New York Times and Penguin Random House for publishing the book Lucky Loser. While the Trump team claims they will continue, The New York Times welcomes the ruling, viewing the lawsuit as merely a political document.
