[US Treasury Secretary Becerra to Attend G7 Finance Leaders Meeting, Follow Trade Issues] A spokesperson for the US Treasury Department stated on Sunday that Treasury Secretary Becerra will attend the G7 finance leaders meeting held in Canada this Tuesday and will seek to refocus the G7 on addressing trade imbalances and non-market economic behaviors. The spokesperson also mentioned that Becerra will discuss with these officials how to achieve more growth driven by the private sector. Becerra also vowed to “reprivatize” the US economy by cutting government spending and regulation, arguing that the US economy is too reliant on the public sector to drive growth. Becerra had his first face-to-face discussions with G7 finance leaders during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings in April, but no joint statement was issued. ( Jin10 )
