I just saw that Nick Szabo, the legendary cryptographer who always has interesting insights about Bitcoin, issued a very clear warning about Inscriptions. Basically, he says he's concerned about how people are using the Bitcoin blockchain to embed images and files, when in reality Bitcoin was designed from the start as a financial protocol, not as a general data storage system.

What caught my attention is the point Nick Szabo raises about regulatory risks. If we start embedding potentially illegal content into the Bitcoin blockchain through these Inscriptions, that could lead to serious legal issues. And it makes sense, right? An immutable blockchain means anything you put there stays there forever.

The Inscriptions themselves are interesting from a technical perspective; they allow data to be written into individual satoshis, which greatly expands what can be done with Bitcoin. But here’s the dilemma: the more Bitcoin is used outside of its original financial purpose, the greater the regulatory and government retaliation risks that could arise.

Nick Szabo’s warning is a good reminder that not everything that is technically possible on a blockchain is necessarily a good idea. Especially when we’re talking about the most important network in the crypto ecosystem. Definitely something to keep in mind as this technology evolves.
