Pepe is a character with a surprisingly complex background.

In 2005, Matt Furie created this frog character for his comic book "Boy's Club." Initially, it was a simple and friendly figure. Later, it exploded as a meme within internet culture and was shared across various social media platforms.

However, during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, the Pepe character was unexpectedly misused. Some online communities began using the character to spread hate speech and racist content. This was a truly unfortunate development.

In response, Furie took action. He partnered with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and launched campaigns like "Save Pepe" to restore the character's original positive image. I personally think his efforts to preserve the true meaning of the character are commendable.

Interestingly, this situation is somewhat similar to the emergence of cryptocurrencies like Pepe Coin. Furie holds legal rights over his work's commercial use, but so far, he doesn't seem actively involved in copyright infringement claims related to Pepe Coin. This might indicate a certain acceptance of the cultural evolution of the character. Pepe has become more than just a meme; it seems to symbolize the very history of internet culture.
