Apple releases MacBook Neo: the first affordable computer powered by iPhone chips
Cover News reporter Wu Yujia
On March 4 at 10:00 PM, Apple held its first-ever China home-market spring product launch at A.F.A in Shanghai, while also connecting with New York and London to kick off global experiential events.
In addition to the usual updates across the iPad and Mac product lines, the biggest highlight of this launch comes from the MacBook Neo, which is seen as Apple’s重新布局 for the entry-level market. Its price has been set in the 4,000-yuan tier, and it goes on sale starting March 11.
In terms of appearance, the Neo features an aluminum metal body and comes in four striking color options: silver, blush pink, tangerine yellow, and indigo blue.
Equipped with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, it is one of the smallest notebooks Apple has made so far.
Another major change is that the Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip, the same as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max—marking the first time Apple has used a smartphone processor in a Mac computer.
Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, said, “MacBook Neo is designed to give more people access to the Mac experience at a more affordable price. It’s a laptop only Apple can build.”
