The house transforms days before. Red lanterns hanging from every corner. Gold banners with calligraphy my grandfather carefully paints by hand. The scent of tangerines and incense filling the air. 🏮
Then comes New Year's Eve.
🤵🏻👰🏻🧒🏻👩THE GATHERING
Three generations under one roof. My grandmother's kitchen becomes a symphony – sizzling woks, chopping knives, laughter bubbling over like hot pot broth. Aunts arguing about recipes. Uncles pretending to help while sneaking bites. Cousins running wild between everyone's legs.
The table creaks under the weight of tradition:
🥟 Dumplings shaped like ancient silver ingots 🐟 Whole fish – for abundance from start to finish 🍜 Longevity noodles never broken 🍊 Golden tangerines piled high for luck
🎇 THE MOMENT
At midnight, we step outside. The sky explodes. Fireworks painting the darkness in colors. My father's arm around my shoulder. My mother recording everything on her phone, crying a little. My little sister holding sparklers, drawing hearts in the air. 🎆
Then the red packets exchange hands. Elders blessing the young. Wishes whispered with each envelope. My grandmother still slips me extra when no one's looking – just like she has for 30 years. 🧧
😁THE NIGHT
We stay until dawn. Playing cards. Telling stories. Remembering those no longer at the table. Promising to call more often. Making new memories we'll laugh about next year.
This is my celebration. A thousand years of tradition wrapped in one night. My roots and my wings, all at once. Happy Year of the Horse, everyone. May your 2026 be legendary. 🐴❤️
