In the AI era, "Atmosphere Coding" security focus... Backslash secures 273 billion KRW investment

Cybersecurity startup Backslash Security successfully raised $19 million (approximately 2.736 billion KRW) in Series A funding to address emerging cyber threats and expand technological capabilities. The funds will be used to grow the R&D team, upgrade the platform, and expand sales in the U.S. and European markets.

Founded in 2022, Backslash focuses on defending against a new type of threat called “ambient coding,” which has emerged alongside the surge in AI coding agents and development tools. The company’s platform enables security teams to monitor the entire process of software generation, modification, and deployment within AI-based workflows.

Traditional security solutions typically focus only on vulnerabilities in individual tools, but Backslash employs an integrated approach across the entire development environment tech stack. Its coverage spans the full AI development lifecycle, including integrated development environments, autonomous AI agents, model context protocol servers, prompt-based workflows, and addresses threats based on development context that traditional application security solutions often overlook.

The platform can analyze AI coding activities across the organization in real-time and support consistent security guardrails across various tools. Its core strength lies in detecting and responding to AI-based anomalies such as malicious code injection or API vulnerabilities without hindering development speed.

Backslash co-founder and CEO Shahar Man emphasized, “Enterprise software development has shifted to be AI-centric, and both developers and management have embraced this trend. However, security must never take a backseat in this transformation.” He added, “Only when security teams have visibility and control over the entire tech stack can companies maintain the security of their infrastructure and applications during the AI-driven development transition.”

The round was led by KOMPAS VC, with participation from Maniv Mobility, Artofin Venture Capital, StageOne Ventures, and First Rays Capital. KOMPAS VC partner Talia Rafielli commented, “AI is transforming not only how software is developed but also the security paradigm itself. Backslash provides a dedicated platform capable of proactively responding to this transformation.”

With a total funding amount of $27 million (approximately 3.888 billion KRW), Backslash is gaining attention as a company setting new security standards within the rapidly evolving AI development ecosystem. In an era where AI software is becoming mainstream, the market has higher expectations for its efforts to simultaneously meet the conflicting demands of development speed and security.
