Putin Says Russia and the U.S. May Develop Nuclear Power for Bitcoin Mining
Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the United States is interested in using the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) for cryptocurrency mining. According to him, Russia and the U.S. are currently discussing the possibility of jointly managing the nuclear facility.
The proposed plan is reportedly being discussed without the involvement of Ukraine, including the idea of utilizing the plant’s electricity output for Bitcoin mining, which Putin says has attracted interest from the U.S. side.
This claim emerges amid Ukraine’s ongoing energy crisis caused by the war. For context, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which has been under Russian control since 2022, has stopped supplying electricity to the grid and is currently in shutdown mode for safety reasons.
Ukraine has strongly rejected any approach that excludes its involvement, asserting that any decisions regarding the nuclear plant made without Kyiv’s consent are illegal. This stance is also supported by the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
As of now, there has been no official statement from the United States confirming these discussions, while the issue of Zaporizhzhia remains one of the most sensitive points in efforts toward peace and energy stability in Ukraine.#Gate2025AnnualReportComing #
