Trump allowed the sale of Nvidia chips to China - ForkLog: cryptocurrencies, AI, singularity, future
Nvidia will be allowed to sell H200 AI chips to “approved clients” in China and other countries, provided that the US government receives 25% of the profits. This was announced by President Donald Trump.
Trump emphasized the goal of “maintaining America’s leadership in artificial intelligence.”
The Department of Commerce is finalizing the details of the agreement. A similar approach will be applied to AMD, Intel, and other companies.
Chinese President Xi Jinping “responded positively” to the proposal, Trump wrote.
In August, Nvidia and AMD agreed to share 15% of their chip sales revenue in China with the US government. Around the same time, the Chinese authorities warned against using the H20 processor, which Nvidia specifically developed for the country.
The H200 is a higher-end semiconductor, but it is not the American chipmaker’s top-of-the-line solution.
According to him, selling the H200 in China “ensures a well-considered balance” that “works great for America.”
Recall that at the annual GTC conference, Nvidia announced new processors for creating and running AI models — Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin.
