Is Pakistan Getting Serious? $25 Billion in Digital Assets Awaiting "Incorporation"

Abstract generation in progress

[Crypto World] Pakistan has been making some big moves lately. Right after a top executive from a leading exchange met with local political and military leaders, regulatory frameworks have been put on the agenda.

To be fair, Pakistan ranks third globally in crypto adoption, with users transacting over $250 billion a year—this scale is definitely not to be underestimated. But the problems are obvious—about $25 billion worth of digital assets are outside regulatory oversight, neither taxed nor effectively protected.

Now the authorities have a clear idea: set up the rules. How licenses are issued, how the market is managed, whether to launch a national digital currency—all of these are under discussion. On the one hand, they want to bring the wealth from the gray areas back on track; on the other hand, they need to give investors a sense of security. Transparency and safety are both priorities.

Whether these measures can actually be implemented depends on the upcoming detailed regulations. But judging by their attitude, Pakistan is serious this time.

Sigh, with Pakistan moving this fast, we can't just let $25 billion go to waste. --- Third largest market, and they want to clean it up this directly? Those guys must be really desperate. --- Wait, $25 billion just lying in a gray area like that? Where's my money, where's my money... --- The regulatory framework sounds intimidating, but if it’s really implemented, wouldn’t it actually make things safer for us retail investors? --- The military chatting with exchanges—never seen a scene like this before. Pakistan is really serious about cracking down this time. --- The question is, how will they issue licenses? Will it just become another way to fleece retail investors? --- Third highest adoption rate in the world. If Pakistan enforces regulation, won’t other countries start feeling the pressure too?

Another regulatory story to fleece retail investors... but $25 billion is really kind of scary.
