Kiarash Hossainpour, a YouTuber and investor, has become a case study on the dangers associated with Bitcoin and sudden wealth in the cryptocurrency market.

Hossainpour found a shortcut to becoming extraordinarily wealthy. While still too young to grow facial hair, he was giving online seminars about entrepreneurship. However, last spring, his fortune vanished when cryptocurrency prices collapsed. Overnight, he had lost everything.

Yet even after this catastrophe, the 22-year-old German of Iranian descent hasn't given up. After losing up to 90% of his digital investment portfolio, Hossainpour assured the German edition of "Business Insider" that he would continue investing in Bitcoin. Bitcoin currently trades at €22,542 per unit... far from the all-time high of €67,205 it reached in November 2021. Nevertheless, it remains the most stable of all cryptocurrencies in which Hossainpour invested. The real death blow to his finances came from Luna, the cryptocurrency he had evangelically promoted on his YouTube channel just months earlier. Last May, it lost 99% of its value.

What happened? Hossainpour blames the "incompetence" of the team that launched the cryptocurrency for the disaster. He admits he didn't see it coming. The "sixth sense" that enabled him to gain hundreds of thousands of followers on his financial advice social media channels had withered. This also affected his wealth, as the young German is not only an investor but also an "influencer." Or, in the words of US stock market advisor and radio host Clark Howard: "an irresponsible man who has driven thousands of uninformed people into bankruptcy."

The Making of a Kamikaze Entrepreneur

Kiarash Hossainpour was born in 1999 in Berlin to an Iranian family (he prefers "Persian") that sought refuge in Germany from the turmoil of the Islamic Revolution. His father, a computer scientist, gave him his first computer when he was 10 years old.

Young Hossainpour began placing sports bets using the machine, but his father – "an upright man, a bit old-fashioned" – strictly forbade this activity. "If you want the computer to help you make money, first learn programming."

Despite his early career success, including reportedly generating over $100 million in net worth from his financial ventures according to industry sources, Hossainpour's story serves as a stark reminder of cryptocurrency market volatility and the dangers of overconfidence in investment strategies.
