How to discover and eliminate a secret miner from your computer

Hello everyone! I am going to share a terrible experience I had with a mining virus on my PC. It's a real nightmare that can happen to any one of us!

What on earth is this so-called hidden miner?

These damn miners are like digital parasites from the Trojan group. They stealthily invade Windows and start sucking the resources from your computer to mine cryptocurrencies - without you knowing and without you earning a dime!

When I realized I had one of those on my PC, I was desperate to get rid of it.

Why is this a ticking time bomb for your PC?

I will be direct: a Trojan in the system is a constant danger. Your passwords can be stolen, your data can disappear, and worse - your graphics card and processor suffer brutal wear!

My laptop almost died after just a few hours with this digital parasite! The heat was so much that I thought it was going to melt. That's why we need to act quickly when we suspect them.

How these digital invaders present themselves

Cryptojacking on the web

This type doesn't even need to download anything on your PC - the script stays within the site itself! When you visit an infected page, the script activates and starts draining the resources of your computer. And you know what's worse? The antivirus can't detect this!

The classic miner virus

It disguises itself as a common file and installs itself without you noticing. Once installed, it connects every time you turn on the PC. Some only mine cryptos, but others can scour your digital wallets and transfer your money to the hackers!

Signs that your PC is possessed

When I noticed these symptoms on my PC, I knew something was wrong:

  • My graphics card roared like a tractor and heated up like a coal.
  • The PC got as slow as a turtle
  • The consumed RAM surged
  • Files mysteriously disappearing
  • Slow internet and excessive consumption
  • Browser freezing all the time
  • Strange processes with bizarre names like "asikadl.exe"

How to hunt and exterminate this parasite

First, I ran a virus scan, followed by CCleaner to clean up any junk. But some miners are too clever and get away!

Some tricks I tried:

  1. Open the registry (Win+R, type regedit)
  2. I searched for suspicious processes (Ctrl+F)
  3. I eliminated strange entries and restarted

If it doesn't work, you can check the task scheduler (Win+R, type taskchd.msc). Look for tasks that start when you turn on the PC and disable the suspicious ones.

The AnVir Task Manager program is fantastic for this. In more complicated cases, Dr. Web performs a deep scan of the system.

Shielding your PC against these invaders

I learned some valuable lessons:

  • Keep a clean image of Windows and restore it every 2-3 months
  • Use updated antivirus
  • Research programs before downloading
  • Scan EVERYTHING you download
  • Always work with an active firewall
  • Do not browse dubious websites
  • Block JavaScript scripts in the browser settings
  • Use ad blockers like AdBlock

Since I implemented these measures, I haven't had any problems since. My PC is now more protected than ever, but I remain vigilant. These digital criminals are always coming up with new tricks!

Don't be a victim like I was. Protect your PC before it's too late!
