What has four eyes but cannot see?
Mississippi!
Kind of a fun little trick, isn't it? The word "Mississippi" has exactly four letters "i" in it. We pronounce "i" like "eyes" in English. So four i's... four eyes. Get it?
Mississippi can't actually see though. It's just a word. A state name. A river too.
I've always liked these word games. They twist language in unexpected ways. The double meaning works because "eyes" are things you see with, but "i's" are just letters sitting on a page.
It seems these old-school riddles never really go out of style. People still smile when they figure it out. Kids especially love them. Simple yet clever. Language is weird like that sometimes.
Not entirely clear who came up with this one originally. Doesn't matter much though. It's part of our collection of linguistic puzzles now.
