Waymo Recalls 3,900 Robotaxis Over Highway Construction Zone Detection Software Issues

According to CNBC, Waymo recalled approximately 3,900 Robotaxis on Thursday to fix software problems after some vehicles mistakenly entered highway construction zones. The voluntary recall by Alphabet's autonomous driving subsidiary stems from 13 known incidents involving vehicles entering closed construction areas in Phoenix and San Francisco. The recall applies to vehicles equipped with Waymo's fifth-generation autonomous driving system. Waymo stated it identified room for improvement in handling highway construction scenarios and has temporarily restricted Robotaxi operations on highways while developing fixes. The company has previously suspended highway services in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami.
