Stripe Founding Engineer Chakrabarti Loses California Congressional Race to Wiener, Backed by Ripple Co-Founder Larsen

According to NBC News, Stripe founding engineer Saikat Chakrabarti lost his bid for Congress in California on Tuesday, garnering only 15% of votes. Democratic candidates Scott Wiener and Connie Chan advanced from the all-party primary to compete for California's 11th Congressional District seat, succeeding Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Wiener's campaign was significantly backed by Ripple co-founder and Executive Chairman Chris Larsen, who contributed $100,000 to Abundant Future, a PAC that spent roughly $65,200 opposing Chakrabarti, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Larsen also donated $7,000 directly to Wiener's official campaign.
