Retail Investors Eye Value in Tech Stocks Despite Record Valuations, Survey Shows

According to an eToro survey, retail investors hold a contradictory view on technology stocks this year: they believe artificial intelligence remains the sector's best long-term investment opportunity, while simultaneously ranking tech as the highest-valuation sector among U.S. equity classes. eToro U.S. investment analyst Bret Kenwell told MarketWatch that this reflects market belief that tech stocks may have "overextended" following recent gains. Among surveyed retail investors, 33% identified Microsoft (MSFT-US), Alphabet (GOOGL-US), and Meta (META-US) as the most attractive technology subsectors for current positioning. Nearly half of respondents expressed preference for investing in AI-related industries overlooked by the market, citing belief that these companies will ultimately benefit from AI development while maintaining strong fundamentals. Retail investors increasingly cite "low valuation" and "strong company fundamentals" as the two most important factors when deploying capital during market pullbacks.
