Meta is testing a new Threads feature that allows users with public accounts to mention @meta.ai in posts and replies to receive answers and context, according to TechCrunch. The beta rollout is currently active in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore.
The @meta.ai tool is designed to provide real-time information on trends and breaking stories. When mentioned, the account will post public replies in the same language as the original post, ensuring localized responses across different regions and languages.
The feature resembles X’s Grok integration, offering a similar approach to AI-assisted information retrieval within a social media platform.
Meta is gathering user feedback before a wider launch and has implemented several control mechanisms. Users can mute @meta.ai entirely, mark its posts as not interested, or hide individual replies from their feeds. These controls allow users to customize their experience with the AI assistant as the company refines the feature.
