Iraq and Iran Foreign Ministers Meet in Baghdad, Emphasize Reopening Strait of Hormuz

According to Saudi media Al Hadath, Iraq's and Iran's foreign ministers held a meeting in Baghdad on June 28, emphasizing the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting maritime blockades. Iraq's foreign minister stated that the blockade of the strategic waterway has disrupted Iraq's oil supply and negatively impacted the region's economy. He noted that Iraq played a crucial role in U.S.-Iran communications and discussed bilateral relations and the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding with his Iranian counterpart. Iraq's foreign minister also stated that Iraq does not support expanding military conflict or aggression against Iran, warning that continued warfare would lead to regional devastation.
