According to the Algorand Foundation, on June 18, the blockchain platform published a post-quantum cryptography roadmap committing to broad quantum resilience by the end of 2027, three years ahead of the U.S. National Security Agency's deadline. The rollout involves three phases: native Falcon-1024 accounts in Q3 2026, post-quantum multisignatures later in 2026, and replacement of the elliptic-curve Verifiable Random Function plus hybrid account support in 2027. The move comes as quantum computers powerful enough to crack blockchain cryptography may emerge before 2030, with research indicating approximately 10% of Bitcoin addresses have exposed public keys at risk.
