Can Sun Yuchen board the Blue Origin spaceship tonight and achieve his 28 million dollar space dream?
At 8:34 PM tonight, TRON founder Justin Sun will board Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft to embark on a journey to space. The NS-34 mission will launch from a site in Texas, USA, and Blue Origin's official website will live stream the entire launch process.
Sun Yuchen's dream of space dates back to 2021, when he purchased a seat on Blue Origin's first crewed flight for $28 million (approximately 200 million RMB), setting the record for the highest bid for private space travel.
However, due to a scheduling conflict, he was unable to participate in the maiden flight on July 20, 2021. This NS-34 mission marks that Sun Yuchen may fulfill the promise made four years ago and complete this space travel experience.
It is worth noting that Sun Yuchen has donated all the bidding funds to Blue Origin's "Future Club" foundation to support the development of global youth STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education.
The NS-34 mission is Blue Origin's 14th crewed flight, expected to last about 10 minutes, during which passengers will cross the Kármán line (at an altitude of 100 kilometers), experience several minutes of weightlessness, and overlook the curvature of the Earth.
However, it remains uncertain whether Sun Yuchen will be able to go to space as scheduled. This cryptocurrency entrepreneur, known for "marketing hype," has faced a series of controversies, from the exposure of a Ponzi scheme involving the TRON "super community" ecosystem project, to abruptly backing out of a high-priced lunch with Warren Buffett, as well as multiple high-profile promotions that ultimately went nowhere. His track record of fulfilling promises is indeed hard to trust.
Whether this cryptocurrency entrepreneur, who is well-versed in the secrets of traffic generation, will once again withdraw at the last minute due to "sudden health issues," "schedule conflicts," or other unexpected reasons, will become a point of interest that is more noteworthy than the launch itself. After all, throughout its marketing history, creating suspense often generates more buzz than fulfilling promises.
The Wall Street Journal once commented: "Sun Yuchen's marketing model = high-profile promises + dramatic delays + ambiguous conclusions."
If this space flight encounters another mishap, it will likely further solidify his title as the "Jia Yueting of the crypto world." Do you think he can break the "King of Doves" curse this time?
