A Trader Turned $173 Into $224 Thousand In This Altcoin

In a display of remarkable patience, a trader held onto a little-known memecoin based on Solana called TROLL, increasing their asset value to over $224,000 after purchasing it for a modest price of $173. The trader made the purchase in mid-December, when this token had a market value of only $6,510. Launching in May 2024 through the Solana-based launch platform Pump.fun, TROLL is a reference to the iconic meme "Trollface" created by Carlos Ramirez in 2008. This coin has not had much momentum for about a year, reaching a market value of $10,500 in January 2025 before dropping to $4,550 in April. But everything changed on April 20, a day often associated with meme culture on the internet, when the value of TROLL increased by 59,944%, raising the market capitalization to $2.7 million. According to the latest data, the total market value of TROLL has reached a high of $27.37 million at the time of writing, according to data from DEX Screener. At the time of this writing, the total market value of the token has decreased to around $16 million. A lucky trader purchased this token for the first time on December 16 by spending 0.8 SOL. Just three weeks later, this amount was quietly transferred to a new wallet. The trader started selling on April 21. According to the block explorer company Solscan, Solana has withdrawn $103,900 in 97 transactions to date and still holds TROLL worth $120,490. However, it should be noted that most users lose money when trading memecoins, which are the highest risk type of currency in an already high-risk cryptocurrency market, and trading with this type of asset can lead to significant losses, including the principal.
