I gradually understood cause and effect, comprehended the way of heaven. I no longer envy those who appear to have everything, because you will ultimately understand that there is no perfect ending in this world, and everything carries regret.

A person has only two hands; wearing gold and silver bracelets means you cannot hold the jade scepter, so how could you possibly have everything you want. You cannot grasp all of life's wife, wealth, children, fortune, and longevity; having one or two is enough.
The law by which the way of heaven operates has never been to let us possess everything, but rather to let us understand, amid gains and losses, what we cherish most. It is rare for life to have both fortune and longevity; when people thrive, wealth does not, when wealth thrives, people do not, when both people and wealth thrive, life is short. In moments of success, one beholds all the flowers of Chang'an in a day, in moments of failure, one becomes destitute with the wine cup laid aside. If there truly is a gift from fate, then something must be secretly withdrawn in return.
For millennia, the principle by which this world operates has never changed—flowers bloom red only for days, not people for a thousand days, three rises and three falls, three periods of poverty and three of wealth, this is the true nature of life. Your life need not be perfect, but it can be complete, completely possessing your own choices, completely accepting your own regrets.
