Paradex Investigation Report Reveals Root Cause Behind January 19 Database Incident
Paradex has officially released its investigation report detailing the technical failure that triggered unexpected liquidations across the platform on January 19. According to the incident analysis, a synchronization issue surfaced during a database upgrade when services were restarted, causing data inconsistencies that propagated to the Paradex Chain. This malfunction resulted in funding rate indices resetting abnormally, which in turn initiated a wave of unintended position closures in multiple trading markets.
Rapid Recovery Through Chain Rollback and Snapshot Restoration
The platform’s response strategy was swift and decisive. Paradex executed a chain state rollback—restoring the network to a snapshot captured before the maintenance window began. This recovery measure successfully nullified all open orders with the exception of pre-existing take-profit and stop-loss (TP/SL) orders, effectively halting the cascade of liquidations. Notably, this chain rollback represents the first time such an operation has been performed on the Paradex Chain infrastructure.
$650,000 Compensation for Affected Users
Following the incident, Paradex launched a comprehensive audit procedure to identify all accounts impacted by the abnormal liquidations. Within 24 hours, the platform completed its investigation and distributed compensation totaling $650,000 from the Liquidator Vault to 200 affected accounts. This swift and transparent resolution demonstrates the platform’s commitment to user protection and accountability.
Strengthened System Protocols to Prevent Recurrence
To fortify against similar incidents, Paradex has implemented multiple defensive measures. These include enhanced service restart protocols, reinforced data validation safeguards, and protective price range mechanisms activated during post-only trading periods. All remaining data inconsistencies affecting portfolio and Vault pages are scheduled for full resolution by January 26. The incident investigation report underscores both the platform’s technical resilience and its dedication to maintaining system integrity.
