U.S. Military Detains Iranian Cargo Ship in Gulf of Oman; Crew to Return Soon

GateNews

Gate News message, April 20 — U.S. military officials stated that crew members from an Iranian cargo ship forcibly detained in the Gulf of Oman yesterday (April 19) will return to Iran shortly.

A Marine Corps unit is currently conducting a search of the vessel, which is reported to be carrying up to 5,000 containers. Once the inspection is complete, U.S. officials will determine how to handle the seized ship.

Two disposal options are being considered: towing the vessel to Oman, or, if the ship remains seaworthy, allowing it to proceed to an Iranian port.
