On April 14, Iranian Ambassador to India Mohammad Fattahali said on Monday (April 14) at a news conference at the Iranian embassy that Indian oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz have not paid any toll fees to Iran. Previously, U.S. President Trump had vowed to stop ships that pay fees to Iran from passing through the strait.
Fattahali said, “You can go and ask the Indian government whether, to date, we have collected any fees. In these difficult times, we maintain good relations. We believe that Iran and India have shared interests and a shared destiny.” India has also repeatedly denied paying any fees.
Since the outbreak of the Iran war, Iran has effectively blocked the strategic waterway. India says that currently, 15 Indian-flagged ships remain stranded in the Persian Gulf.
