BlockBeats News, December 14 — At the end of November this year, an arson-murder case involving cryptocurrency occurred in Vienna, Austria. Two suspects were recently arrested in Ukraine. The victim was Danylo Kuzmin, the 21-year-old son of Sergey Kuzmin, Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv, Ukraine; among the suspects, one was 45-year-old Alexander Agoyev, a former Ukrainian Customs officer, and the other was Borys Rejncuk, a 19-year-old stepson of Olesia Ilyashuk, the Ukrainian ambassador to Bulgaria. The suspects’ motive was to obtain Danylo’s cryptocurrency wallet passwords. Danylo was studying in Vienna and had previously disclosed to one of the suspects that his father was the Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv and owned cryptocurrency assets. A Vienna police spokesperson confirmed that Danylo’s cryptocurrency wallet had a large transfer record, and when the two suspects were arrested in Ukraine, a large amount of US dollars in cash was confiscated from them. Danylo was attacked in the underground parking lot of the Sofitel Vienna hotel, with bloodstains indicating he was assaulted there. Police believe that Danylo was held in the car for several hours and tortured until he revealed the passwords to two crypto wallets. He was then taken to another location. After emptying his crypto wallets, the suspects threw Danylo onto the back seat of a vehicle and set the car on fire. The burned black Mercedes-Benz, with Ukrainian plates, belonged to Danylo’s family. Borys Rejncuk, the 19-year-old suspect, is the stepson of Ukrainian ambassador Olesia Ilyashuk; his biological father is the son of Ukrainian businessman Ivan Rejncuk, who was prosecuted for financial crimes but was acquitted in 2021. The other suspect, 45-year-old Alexander, was a former employee and department head at the Odessa Customs Bureau. The police seized nearly $90,000 from him.
