As the world watches anxiously for the escalation of the war between the United States and Iran, some billionaires seem to be preparing for the worst-case scenarios by investing in advanced doomsday shelters.
Amid international conflicts, natural disasters, and increasing threats facing modern civilization, it appears that the richest 1% of the world's population are planning to survive any potential catastrophe by owning shelters in remote areas such as New Zealand, the Scottish Highlands, and Pacific Islands.
New Zealand.. The Wealthy’s Destination to Prepare for the End of the World
For many of the world's wealthy, New Zealand is the preferred location to prepare for any possible disaster scenario.
Red Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, stated to The New Yorker magazine in 2017 that buying property in New Zealand has become for the wealthy a form of "insurance against the end of the world."
Additionally, the global underground shelter network Vivos announced that it established a shelter in the South Island of New Zealand in 2020, capable of accommodating around 300 people.
Meanwhile, Rising S Bunkers, a company specializing in building survival shelters, revealed that it has delivered about 10 private bunkers to New Zealand over the past few years.
Several billionaires, including Sam Morgan, Peter Thiel, and Bill Foley, have invested millions and possibly hundreds of millions of dollars in purchasing extensive properties in the country, according to Express magazine.
Growing Interest in Doomsday Shelters
In the same context, Annie Jacobsen, author of the book "Nuclear War: A Scenario," published in 2024, revealed that the number of doomsday shelters in New Zealand is experiencing a noticeable increase.
Jacobsen explained that she discovered this trend during interviews with several billionaires who are preparing for such scenarios.
During her appearance on comedian Hassan Minaj's podcast last month, she said: "Many people believe that owning a shelter in New Zealand or Australia could provide protection in the event of a global catastrophe."
Professor Brian Tunn, an expert in atmospheric and ocean sciences, also pointed out that Australia and New Zealand might be among the few regions capable of maintaining agriculture after a nuclear war.
What Do Doomsday Shelters Contain?
Doomsday shelters for billionaires are designed to be self-sufficient, equipped with independent systems for energy, food, and water.
According to Wired magazine, those involved in developing these shelters are often bound by strict secret agreements that prevent revealing details.
These shelters typically include:
📌 Independent energy systems
📌 Long-term food and water storage
📌 Living quarters and medical facilities
📌 Mechanical equipment spaces
📌 Emergency exits
📌 Armored doors resembling bomb shelter doors
According to People magazine, these bunkers are designed to provide a complete living environment capable of supporting their inhabitants for extended periods in the event of a global disaster...
