Vietnam launches tax transparency reform to exit the EU blacklist
Global challenges regarding tax justice have prompted Vietnam to actively review its position on the international stage. The country’s inclusion in the European Union’s list of problematic tax jurisdictions has triggered an official government response aimed at fundamental changes to the tax system.
National Strategy of the Ministry of Economic Development and Tax Reform
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local economic development agencies announced the launch of a comprehensive national action plan. This initiative aims to bring the country’s tax system in line with international standards recommended by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). According to news sources, including Jin10, Vietnam is implementing a package of measures to strengthen oversight and transparency in the tax sector.
The proposed strategy involves expanding the exchange of tax information with partner countries and deepening cooperation with EU authorities. This includes implementing new technological solutions to monitor tax flows and eliminate tax avoidance schemes.
Cooperation with OECD and the European Union
Vietnam’s leadership expects that consistent implementation of OECD recommendations will be a key step toward removing the country from the list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions. International cooperation in economic development and tax transparency is considered a top priority.
The EU has set specific requirements for improving control and reporting mechanisms. Vietnam demonstrates its readiness to meet these challenges, viewing tax reform as a necessary condition to strengthen its economic position in the global market.
Expected Outcomes and Future Development Prospects
Successful implementation of this program will positively impact the business climate in the country and attract foreign investment. Increasing tax transparency will foster trust between Vietnam and its international partners, enhancing the country’s role in regional and global economic development.
It is expected that, within the specified period of fulfilling all EU and OECD conditions, Vietnam will be removed from the blacklist. This process highlights the importance of international cooperation in ensuring transparency and fairness in any country’s tax system, regardless of its level of development.
