On February 4th local time, the Greek Coast Guard issued a statement saying that on the evening of February 3rd local time, near the island of Chios in the eastern Aegean Sea, an inflatable boat carrying illegal migrants collided with a coast guard patrol boat. All persons on the smuggling boat fell into the water, resulting in 14 deaths on the spot, and one more died after being taken to the hospital due to injuries. Twenty-two migrants and two coast guard personnel were injured. Currently, Greek coast guard ships and Greek Air Force helicopters are still searching for possible survivors in the area where the incident occurred. (CCTV News)
