Today, the Supreme People’s Court held a press conference to inform about the overall strengthening of environmental resource adjudication work and the protection of the construction of a Beautiful China. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the people’s courts fully played their judicial functions, concluding a total of 1.192 million first-instance environmental resource cases, a 4.3% decrease compared to the previous five years. This includes 141,000 criminal cases, 804,000 civil cases, and 247,000 administrative cases, among which 22,000 are environmental public interest litigation cases. Over the past five years, the number of first-instance criminal cases related to environmental resources has continued to decline, with 24,000 new cases in 2025, a 32.6% decrease from 2021. This reflects that China’s ecological civilization construction is progressing in an orderly manner with remarkable results, and the people’s courts have achieved positive outcomes in serving, integrating into, and promoting national ecological and environmental governance.
