SEC Commissioner and former Acting Chair Mark T. Uyeda stated that security tokenization is moving from concept to practical application, and the SEC should not impose unnecessary regulatory barriers. He pointed out that during the Trump administration, the SEC shifted away from enforcement as the primary regulatory approach, instead promoting innovation through guidance, public consultations, and exemption pilot programs, while ensuring investor protection. The goal is to explore compliant on-chain securities and RWA implementation. He emphasized that tokenization has the potential to reduce intermediaries, shorten settlement cycles, and improve transparency, but security tokens still need to adhere to the existing securities law framework.
