The executive’s comments were made during an interview with CNBC on Saturday (27).

According to Hougan, Bitcoin has entered a more sustainable growth phase, characterized by more predictable gains and less sharp fluctuations. For him, the market is heading toward a scenario of stable profits, even if not with the spectacular numbers seen in early adoption phases.

The expectation, according to his forecasts, is for consistent returns, with less annual volatility and only some occasional fluctuations.

Hougan emphasized that he maintains an optimistic view for Bitcoin in 2026, believing in another positive year for the asset. However, the debate over the end of the traditional four-year cycles — historically linked to halving events — remains open.

During the same interview, Sebastian Bo, CIO of ReserveOne, noted that it is still unclear whether this cyclical pattern (halving) has come to an end.

Bo recalled that Bitcoin reached a historical high of US$ 126,000 in early October but retreated to the region of US$ 87,000 in a short period. Despite this, Hougan highlighted that corrections of this magnitude are more moderate than those observed in previous cycles, when declines reached 60%.

For the Bitwise executive, the recent correction is linked to changes in retail investor behavior, which began withdrawing resources in anticipation of the market’s cyclical pattern. Still, he emphasized that institutional support has become the main pillar of Bitcoin, while US government policies would have limited impact on the sector.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading around US$ 87,700, up 0.5% in the last 24 hours.
