Application-Specific Blockchain is starting to heat up again, with more and more projects moving towards vertical scenarios.
It must be said that bytemaster's design for Steem back then was truly ahead of its time— a blockchain specifically optimized for social content, which remains very inspiring even now.
What is most eye-catching are a few design features at the protocol level: native support for multi-signatures and Passkey signature verification, which greatly enhance user experience; and the atomic gas fee sponsorship mechanism, allowing project teams to seamlessly cover user transaction fees. These features are still essential in today's Web3 application scenarios.
It seems that blockchain tailored for specific application scenarios indeed has certain advantages over general-purpose chains in some dimensions.

That set of bytemaster's stuff is indeed impressive, but honestly, most of the current dedicated chain projects are more hype than substance.
That's right, gas fee sponsorship has now become a genuine need, which shows how many projects have taken the wrong turns before.

Steem's system has indeed been underestimated. Looking at it again now, it still packs a punch.
Everyone wants to build a general-purpose chain, but in the end, specialized chains better understand user pain points.
The gas fee sponsorship design really should become an industry standard. It's so annoying to make newcomers pay.
Bytemaster's forward-thinking mind was just too ahead of its time.

That Steem system is really amazing. Now a bunch of projects are only just realizing they need to build vertical chains. They're several years late.

Steem's system is truly impressive. Now I understand why passkey is so important. The vertical integration in user experience really has a natural advantage.
