#加密货币安全事件 Looking back at this Upbit security incident, I can’t help but recall the 2016 Bitfinex hack. At that time, Bitfinex lost about 120,000 bitcoins, worth around $72 million. Compared to that, Upbit’s loss this time is “only” $36 million, but the impact on users is just as significant.

To Upbit’s credit, they acted quickly and promised to fully compensate users for their losses. This is much better than Bitfinex’s approach back then. I remember that Bitfinex adopted a socialized loss-sharing solution at the time, resulting in a 36.067% deduction from all user accounts.

However, from a technical perspective, the security vulnerability exposed by Upbit this time is concerning. Being able to deduce a private key from public transaction records is a very serious problem. This reminds us that even industry-leading exchanges can have fatal flaws in their security.

For those of us who have experienced multiple security incidents, this once again confirms the golden rule: “Not your keys, not your coins.” No matter how reliable an exchange may seem, you should always transfer most of your assets to a personal cold wallet for safekeeping.

At the same time, this serves as a wake-up call for the entire industry. As the market value of cryptocurrencies continues to grow, hacking attacks will only become more frequent. Exchanges need to constantly upgrade their security measures, and users must enhance their security awareness. After all, in this field, security is always the top priority.
