Checks are really becoming obsolete. A recent survey by GOBankingRates shows that 46% of Americans haven't written a check in the past year, and this number is even more pronounced among young people—46% of those aged 18-24 have never written a check, while the figure is even higher at 51% for those aged 25-34.
In contrast, 22% of people aged 65 and older still write a few checks each month.
Why? Apps like Venmo, PayPal, and Zelle are incredibly smooth. Biometric verification, instant transfers, zero fees, especially since Zelle supports direct integration with bank apps, and transfers are still free. PayPal has the largest user base (428 million), but Venmo is the most popular among young people due to its simplicity.
To be honest, apart from rent, taxes, and those old-fashioned people who only accept checks, electronic payments can really handle everything. Checks are indeed a bit outdated in the digital age.
