The Senate Republicans plan to start voting on tax reform on Friday, with SALT deductions being key

The Majority Leader of the United States Senate, Thune, said on Tuesday that he expects to begin voting on Trump’s “beautiful big law” on Friday, which will keep the vote going through the weekend and disrupt the House’s recess plan next week. However, Thune is confident that Congress will submit the bill to Trump by the July 4 deadline. Thune met with House Speaker Johnson around noon on Tuesday. Minutes before the meeting, Thune said he had not recently discussed the bill with Johnson. House leadership told people that they were concerned about whether the Senate version of the bill could pass. The biggest concern is the modification of the deduction for state and local taxes (SALT) and the tax on healthcare providers. Regarding SALT, Thune said, “I know this will be the last issue to be resolved, and it will be so.”
