Comments from Donald Trump on the Fed and Powell: Not a very smart person

Donald Trump made statements ahead of the Fed’s interest rate decision. Stating, as he has for a long time, that interest rates need to fall, Trump said, “Interest rates should come down to reduce borrowing costs. We should be 200 basis points lower right now, but they probably won’t cut rates today either.”

“Powell is not a smart person”

Trump, who also criticized Fed Chairman Powell, said, “I don’t see Powell as a very smart person. He probably won’t lower interest rates today either. The Fed has not done a good job so far. It would have been nice if we were 250 basis points lower.”
