SIP-3 Proposal from the Sei Labs Team

The core development team of the Sei blockchain, Sei Labs, has proposed SIP-3, a significant turning point. The goal is to gradually replace the existing CosmWasm smart contracts and Cosmos account functionality, fully transitioning to the Ethereum Virtual Machine architecture (EVM). The proposal aims to simplify the network structure and improve operational efficiency. Upon implementation, the Sei network will only support transactions through EVM addresses, but underlying functions such as verification nodes will still maintain technical support from Cosmos.

This transition is based on practical data since the launch of mainnet Sei v2, where the trading volume related to EVM has dominated. Currently, the proposal is in the community discussion phase and will be decided through Snapshot voting processes. If approved, developers need to migrate CosmWasm applications to the EVM environment, and users need to transfer assets to EVM-compatible wallets.

This change is expected to optimize the experience for developers and help Sei integrate deeply into the EVM ecosystem. This content is for market reference only and does not constitute investment advice.
