Musk: AI6 is in development, launching new AI chips every year to compete for the world's top production.

Elon Musk tweeted on 11/23 on Twitter (X) that TSL (Tesla) is nearing the final stages of AI5 chip design, while also beginning to develop the next-generation AI6 chip. These chips will be used in TSL vehicles and data centers in the future. Musk emphasized that the goal is to launch a new AI chip design every year, and he stated that in the future, TSL chip production will exceed that of all other AI chips combined.

Samsung secures a major chip order from TSL, with Musk personally involved.

According to previous reports, Samsung has signed a chip foundry contract worth a total of $16.5 billion with TSL, and the collaboration will continue until the end of 2033. The chips will be produced at Samsung's new factory located in Taylor, Texas, USA, responsible for creating TSL's next-generation “AI6” AI chips.

In this regard, Musk personally confirmed on Twitter (X) that he would personally visit the production line and assist in optimizing the process.

The AI5 design is about to be completed and is ready to be sent to the wafer fab for manufacturing.

As of 11/23, Musk publicly announced the latest progress of his company's AI chip. He stated that the current Tesla models are using the AI4 chip, while the next generation AI5 is close to tape out (, which means the design is in its final stages and ready to be sent to the wafer fabs for production.

What is a tape-out?

In simple terms, a tape-out is the last step before a chip design is completed and officially sent to a foundry to start manufacturing. This means that the design team will spend time on circuit design, verification, and simulation, and after confirming that there are no major issues, they will hand over the final version to the foundry to begin production.

The diagram shows the integrated circuit design process. AI6 is in the research and development phase, aiming to launch new chips every year to achieve the number one production volume globally.

At the same time, TSL has officially begun developing AI6, which will be deployed in vehicles and data centers in the future. This also echoes a previous announcement by Samsung Electronics regarding a $16.5 billion collaboration, where Musk pointed out that Samsung's new factory in Texas will specifically produce AI6.

Musk also emphasized that Tesla's goal is to launch a new AI chip design every 12 months, and claimed that future chip production will be more than all other AI chips combined, adding that he is not joking.

As shown in the image below, the price of TSL ) has benefited from the AI boom, soaring 121% from this year's low of 214 USD to a peak of 474 USD. As of the time of writing, the current price is 391.09 USD.
