Delta Air Lines Elevates Dan Janki to Chief Operating Officer in Major Executive Reshuffle
Delta Air Lines has unveiled significant changes to its executive leadership structure, effective April 30. The company announced a comprehensive reorganization aimed at fortifying its management team and supporting sustained business growth. At the center of these changes is Dan Janki, who steps into the role of Chief Operating Officer, positioning him as a key figure in Delta’s operational strategy moving forward.
Leadership Transition with Peter Carter’s Promotion
Peter Carter has been elevated to the position of President, taking on expanded responsibilities across enterprise strategy, global policy and legal matters, international portfolio, real estate, and sustainability and diversity initiatives. Carter’s advancement comes as John Laughter, the company’s Executive Vice President and Chief of Operations and President of Delta TechOps, moves toward retirement after contributing more than thirty years of service to the airline.
CEO Ed Bastian communicated the changes directly to employees through an internal memo, framing the restructuring as essential to the company’s long-term strategic objectives. Bastian emphasized the importance of building a leadership team capable of navigating the evolving aviation industry landscape.
Dan Janki Takes the Helm of Delta Operations
Dan Janki’s appointment as Chief Operating Officer represents a significant promotion within Delta’s hierarchy. In this expanded capacity, he assumes comprehensive oversight of all operational dimensions critical to Delta’s safe and reliable performance. Janki’s jurisdiction encompasses Delta’s Airport Customer Service operations, Flight Operations, In-Flight Service, Operations & Customer Center, Reservation Sales and Customer Care, Technical Operations, and the Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance divisions.
This centralization of operational authority under Dan Janki’s leadership underscores Delta’s commitment to streamlining decision-making and enhancing operational consistency across all business units. His responsibility for coordinating these diverse operational functions reflects the airline’s confidence in his capability to manage complex, interdependent systems.
Supporting Cast: Additional Executive Appointments
The executive reshuffle extends beyond Janki and Carter. Alain Bellemare, serving as Executive Vice President and President of International Operations, assumes additional responsibilities as Chairman of Delta TechOps, succeeding Laughter in this capacity. Erik Snell has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, bringing twenty years of Delta experience to the role after previously serving as Chief Customer Experience Officer.
Chief Marketing Officer Alicia Tillman has decided to pursue external leadership opportunities, prompting Delta to appoint Ranjan Goswami as Chief Marketing and Product Officer. All four newly positioned executives—Carter, Dan Janki, Snell, and Goswami—now report directly to CEO Bastian, reflecting a streamlined command structure designed to accelerate decision-making and strategic alignment across the organization.
