Nvidia Executive Details Robotics Vision: 'We're A Market Maker'
Graphic Processor Units Drive AI Boom
Nvidia invented graphics processing units or GPUs in 1999 and revolutionized the gaming industry through its advanced graphics and processing capabilities.
However, GPUs have been accelerating computing in data centers and artificial intelligence applications after generative AI took a leap forward with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The company makes some of the most advanced chips to meet demand for artificial intelligence tasks such as training and inferencing.
Its Blackwell processor was launched in March 2024 and was 2.5 times faster than the previous generation chip, the H100. More advanced processors such as the one known as Vera Rubin are anticipated in 2026. Vera will also feature Nvidia’s first custom chip.
According to Chief Executive Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s AI-capable chips paved the way for the “iPhone moment of AI.”
The company pioneered graphics processors used in such industries as health care, telecommunications, automobiles and robotics.
Nvidia also offers its own software and developer tools for data processing, AI and high performance computing. Its software acceleration tools are available on Alphabet’s (GOOGL) Google Cloud, Amazon’s (AMZN) AWS, and Microsoft’s (MSFT) Azure.
CEO Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO Huang has spearheaded Nvidia’s transformation from a provider of gaming chips to a leader supplying AI chips to data centers and cloud providers such as Amazon and Alphabet.
Huang founded Nvidia in 1993. Before founding Nvidia, Huang worked at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and LSI Logic
Huang is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has received the chip industry’s highest honor, the Robert N. Noyce Award. He is also a recipient of the IEEE Founder’s Medal and the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award.
Jensen Huang graduated with a BSEE from Oregon State University and a MSEE from Stanford University.
