A spokesperson for the European Union stated that the U.S. decision to cancel artificial intelligence diffusion rules is a welcome move.
[The EU spokesperson stated that the U.S. cancellation of AI proliferation rules is a welcome move] Thomas Reynier, spokesperson for the European Commission, stated that the Trump administration’s decision to cancel the so-called AI proliferation rules, which set limits on how many advanced AI chips certain countries can purchase, is a welcome development. Reniere said, “We are pleased that the U.S. government recognizes that the rules on the diffusion of artificial intelligence will harm diplomatic relations between the U.S. and dozens of countries.” The U.S. Department of Commerce is moving to abolish this regulation on the grounds that it would stifle innovation, place a heavy regulatory burden on companies, and damage diplomatic relations. Reniere stated that lifting the restrictions on the EU’s purchase of advanced artificial intelligence chips from the U.S. aligns with America’s economic and security interests.
