Ethereum Foundation Co-Executive Director Tomasz K. Stańczak announced that Vitalik Buterin will step back from daily coordination and crisis intervention duties to focus more on research and long term innovation, marking a strategic evolution for Ethereum’s leadership and roadmap.
The Ethereum Foundation Will Refocus on Vitalik Buterin’s Role as Network Upgrades Accelerate
According to Stańczak, the Foundation is intentionally allowing more time for Buterin to explore the future boundaries of Ethereum instead of sticking to operational duties. This change comes as the network enters an ambitious phase of technical advancement.
Ethereum’s short-term development efforts are currently focused on the following topics:
Layer 1 scaling to improve the core chain performance,
Support developed for layer 2 scaling solutions,
Important user experience improvements focusing on interoperability (UX).
These priorities will be realized through three major upcoming upgrades, Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam, which the Foundation said would accelerate innovations expected to arrive in three to five years.
Stańczak said, “This new phase is about building a faster, better, and more connected infrastructure.” “By allowing Vitalik to focus on the deep technical thinking and visionary research he does best, we are positioning Ethereum not only to scale but also to lead the next wave of Web3.”
The foundation’s renewed focus on Layer 2 and cross-chain experiences aligns with the broader Ethereum ecosystem’s efforts to maintain its dominance in a rapidly evolving blockchain environment that now includes strong competition from modular and application chain priority networks.
