HOT: The U.S. Senate has passed a bill to reopen the government

The U.S. Senate just passed a bill to fund the government, ending the longest shutdown in the nation's history with a vote of 60-40. The bill received support from some Democratic senators and most Republican senators, and will be sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

If the House of Representatives approves, the bill will be signed into law by President Donald Trump. Trump had previously expressed agreement with the deal, which was negotiated between the Republicans and a group of moderate Democrats.

However, House Speaker Mike Johnson has not committed to fulfilling the important provision of holding a separate vote in December on the possibility of extending health insurance subsidies under the ACA. Johnson is urging House lawmakers to prepare to head to Washington for an early vote, possibly on Wednesday, depending on whether the Senate completes its final steps.
