Gate, a global leader in crypto asset trading, has officially launched its latest security product—the Gate Vault—powered by Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology. This multi-chain wallet is designed to fundamentally transform traditional digital asset custody: transactions can be securely signed without ever exposing the complete private key.

MPC technology works by splitting and encrypting the full private key into multiple "key shards," which are then distributed and stored across different nodes.

01 Security Revolution: Eliminating Single Point of Failure in Private Key Management

In conventional crypto wallets, the leak or loss of a complete private key means permanent loss of assets—a long-standing "single point of failure" risk in the industry.

According to security reports, 62.3% of all losses from blockchain security incidents over the years have resulted from private key leaks. The Gate Vault leverages MPC technology to fundamentally address this issue.

The core principle is to split a private key into three independent key shards. These shards are encrypted and stored separately: one on the user’s local device, one on Gate’s server, and one with an independent third-party service provider.

02 Four-Layer Architecture: Building an Impenetrable Defense System

Gate Vault is not just a single technology—it’s a comprehensive security solution built on four core mechanisms, each designed to tackle a critical security challenge.

The first layer is a more resilient security architecture. By using three-party distributed storage, even if one node is compromised, attackers cannot obtain the complete key. This design effectively defends against single-point attacks targeting either servers or user devices.

The second layer ensures true asset control. The Vault employs a 2-of-3 signature mechanism, meaning that both the platform and the third-party service provider only hold partial shards, and neither party can initiate transactions independently.

To withdraw funds, the user must initiate the transaction on their own device and combine at least one other key shard for authorization.

The third layer introduces a robust delayed withdrawal protection mechanism—a pioneering risk control feature. Any withdrawal initiated through Gate Vault triggers a 48-hour delay period.

During this window, users can "freeze" the withdrawal at any time via the app, providing a crucial buffer against device loss, hacking, or accidental actions.

The final layer is a global disaster recovery mechanism. Even in extreme scenarios such as platform service interruptions, asset security remains intact. Users can use their local device shard and the shard stored with the independent third-party provider, collaborating via open-source tools to reconstruct the full private key and recover their assets.

03 Practical Guide: From Activation to Recovery

After understanding the powerful technology, how do you actually use Gate Vault? The process is straightforward and user-friendly.

Activation and Access: Currently, Gate Vault is available for free to VIP3 and above users for a limited time. Users can find the activation entry on the "Assets - Overview" page in the latest version of the Gate App.

Fund Transfers and Fees: Users can transfer funds into the Vault from their Gate account or directly from the blockchain, with no fee for deposits. When withdrawing funds from the Vault to your Gate account, the platform charges a 0.1% service fee to support ongoing security and risk management, capped at $100 per transaction.

Backup and Recovery: To accommodate device changes, the Vault supports backing up your local device shard to the cloud or generating an encrypted QR code.

If your backup is unavailable, you can recover your Vault through a collaborative process between Gate and the third-party provider, which involves identity verification on both sides for security. Most importantly, even if Gate’s services are unavailable, users can independently recover their assets using the third-party provider.

04 Ecosystem Puzzle Piece: The Strategic Significance of Gate Vault

The launch of Gate Vault is more than just a new product—it’s a pivotal element in Gate’s overall Web3 strategy, anchoring the platform’s commitment to "security and trust."

As users shift from purely centralized custody to more diverse self-custody solutions, a secure, user-friendly, and seamlessly integrated self-custody option is becoming the bridge between the centralized and decentralized worlds.

Recently, Gate has continued to enhance the fund management experience. On December 24, 2025, the platform rolled out automated and batch withdrawal features, further improving users’ efficiency in fund flows and operations. These automation tools, combined with the foundational security of Gate Vault, create a robust and efficient asset management ecosystem.

Looking at Gate’s complete roadmap, Gate Vault joins products like Gate Layer (Layer 2 network), Gate Perp DEX (decentralized derivatives exchange), and Gate Fun (on-chain launchpad) to form a full-stack product matrix—from trading and wealth management to Web3 self-custody.

Gate Vault’s role in this ecosystem is to provide users with a secure and autonomous starting point for exploring the broader Web3 universe.

As of December 26, 2025, the landscape of crypto assets continues to expand rapidly. Whether users are discovering early-stage projects on Gate Fun or tracking trending tokens on Meme Go, much of their core assets may be safely stored in that digital vault utilizing 2-of-3 shard signatures.

The Vault’s 48-hour delayed withdrawal protection acts like an invisible airlock, offering one last—and most crucial—opportunity for risk confirmation before assets leave the fortress of absolute security.
